13 February 2004:
Development of a Clinical Mission Statement or Credo
Dr. Marple asked the Task Force to review the list of Mission Statements and Credos collected from other academic medical centers.
Dr. Behrendt noted that Credos are most effective when they are short and descriptive for all employees, and when they are personal, relate to care, and are comprehensive. He recommended the credo not concentrate on the technical aspects of the care and service we provide. The Task Force agreed.
He referred again to the North Shore University Hospital booklet, page 5:
Mission and Vision for Service Excellence/Our Vision:
“I am helping to build an extraordinary hospital
that is patient focused and service oriented
because I C.A.R.E.”
• Cooperation
• Appearance
• Respect
• Environment
John Luke suggested, “We care about you,” as this could apply to our patients as well as our employees.
Dr. Behrendt reminded the Task Force that as we move forward with the Initiative, the statement of care reflects on ourselves as well as our patients.
Homework – The Task Force is asked to think of single words and brief statements that have impact and meaning as we work to develop a credo.
Please email your ideas to Julie Landesberg so we can compile them for our next meeting on February 27th.
