The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, in cooperation with Parkland Health and Hospital System offers a 36 month Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency program starting at the PGY-2 level.  

The PM&R Residency offers a balance of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation experience and will prepare you for a career in private practice, research or academic medicine.  The program features:

  • A curriculum of didactic course work that includes conferences, grand rounds, journal clubs, and oral board exams
  • Clinical research as defined in the Resident Scholarly Activity requirement
  • A faculty to resident ratio of 1.29:1 providing a learning environment that fosters the development of your clinical skills and academic abilities 
  • Fellowships in several subspecialty areas, including Spinal Cord Injury, Pediatrics, Pain, Brain Injury, Neuromuscular Medicine, and Sports Medicine
  • Residency management software for documentation of all residency requirements
  • Superb facilities include state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery centers

The PM&R Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and offers outstanding clinical experiences in burns, wound care, trauma, electrodiagnosis, and neuro-rehabilitation at a variety of affiliated institutions including:

    o   VA North Texas Health Care System

    o   Children’s Medical Center

    o   Parkland Health & Hospital System

    o   UT Southwestern University Hospitals

    o   Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas

    o   John Peter Smith Hospital of Fort Worth

Resident applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and interviews are scheduled November through January.     

After completing the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program at UT Southwestern you will be eligible to take the certification examination offered by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
