OUR MISSION

The mission of the Charles and Jane Pak Center for Mineral Metabolism and Clinical Research is to provide an environment of the highest standards to achieve excellence in the areas of patient care, education and research. We will employ the best diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in a patient-friendly atmosphere where a spirity of inquiry and collaboration between patients, clinicians and scientists can flourish.

VISION AND GOALS

The vision of the Center is to be recognized as a foremost facility and endowed center of excellence committed to decreasing the impact of disorders of mineral metabolism. Our goal is to integrate cellular/molecular basic research into patient-care treatments through metabolic/clinical research. We will provide leadership locally, nationally and internationally in research teaching, education and patient care to advance the body of knowledge for prevention and treatment of diseases of mineral metabolism.

Dr. Orson Moe,  Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center was appointed Director of the Charles and Jane Pak Center for Mineral Metabolism and  Clinical  Research on September 1, 2003. Dr. Moe has a highly productive research endeavor and has published exclusively on expression of the  renin-angiotensin system in renal proximal tubules.

Dr. Charles Pak, the former director has created a new Biotechnology Program in Mineral Metabolism. The focus of the program is to translate research done in the Center for Mineral Metabolism to patient care.  This includes FDA submissions of New Drug Applications (NDA's) and Investigational Device Exemptions (IDE's) as well as coordinating many patient oriented research projects.
