Obtaining an Appointment

Physicians generally refer patients to the dietitian but patients may also refer themselves. Call 214-645-2800 for an appointment and general information regarding fees and possible insurance coverage. Medicare coverage of medical nutrition therapy is limited to treatment of diabetes or kidney disease with appropriate physician referral.

Call 214-645-2800 to schedule an appointment in the James W. Aston Center Clinic (see map).

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Dietary and lifestyle changes are important adjunct therapies in the prevention and treatment of many conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, eating disorders, gastrointestinal system diseases, hypertension, kidney disease, obesity and osteoporosis.

The registered dietitian assesses patients' nutritional needs based on diagnoses, laboratory values, physical assessment and dietary history. Patients may be asked to keep food records prior to their appointment and these records may be analyzed using a computerized nutrient analysis program to determine dietary inadequacies or excesses. Recommendations are individualized and translated by the registered dietitian into practical, specific dietary changes the patient can implement. The dietitian works collaboratively with patients and physicians to assist them in implementing diet changes and monitoring outcomes.
