Description of Services
The Oncology-Hematology Clinic (Simmons Cancer Center) provides a broad spectrum of diagnostic capabilities, treatment and management of patients with neoplastic and blood diseases. Integrated into the clinics are several specialized diagnostic assets that include computer-assisted risk assessment models, cytogenetics and in-situ hybridization capacity, molecule diagnostic and marker-prognostic panels, and specialized studies in coagulation and thrombosis. Therapeutic approaches are multimodality with a very close and integrated relationship with radiation and surgical oncology, as well as the spectrum of subspecialties. Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, vaccine trials and supportive programs are carried on in the clinic. An important part of the activities include clinical cancer genetics.
Diagnostic and therapeutic activities extend beyond the Clinic with our participation in clinical research activities in several Clinical Cooperative Groups: Cancer and Leukemia Group B, NSABP, Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, as well as a spectrum of faculty initiated therapeutic studies.
