National PA Demographics

The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) estimates that as of December 2009, there are approximately 80,000 PAs in clinical practice in the United States.  There are approximately 4,800 PAs practicing in Texas or 6% of the national total.

 


Employment Outlook

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that the number of PA jobs will grow much faster than average for all occupations through the year 2014.  In addition, the PA profession is ranked in the top 10 best jobs in America by Money Magazine.


Income

According to the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), in 2008, the national average income for PAs was $85,710 a year.  The average income for new PA graduates was $76,232.
