CancerGene is a computer program for estimating the likelihood that a family carries a mutation in one of the cancer predisposition genes.  The user enters family history information which is then analyzed using a variety of mathematical models.  The software draws a pedigree and archives family history and mutation probability information to a relational database.  CancerGene provides a user friendly graphical interface for generating the input files required by the BayesMendel BRCAPRO and MMRpro and PancPro programs run seamlessly in the background.  A detailed knowledge of mathematical risk models and cancer genetics is required to make use of CancerGene.  CancerGene is available to health care professionals involved in cancer risk counseling.

HIPAA TIP

If you are saving pedigree information to the CaGene.mdb database and need more security than your desktop computer provides, you can move the CaGene.mdb database to a HIPAA Security Rule compliant server and then "Manually Reconfigure your ODBC Driver" to point to that new location.
