Q:  How frequently does the IACUC meet?

A:  The IACUC convenes for regularly scheduled meetings once a month on the second Friday of each month.

Q:  What is the deadline for submitting animal use applications for review by the IACUC?

A:  Animal use applications must be turned in to the IACUC office by the 25th of the month prior to the scheduled IACUC meeting.  If the 25th falls on a holiday or weekend, the deadline will be 5PM on the business day before the holiday or weekend.

Q:  How many copies of the Animal Protocol must be submitted?

A:  For new protocols and third year renewals, you must submit one paper copy of your Animal Protocol to the IACUC office.  Please include one copy of all attachments such as flowcharts, safety plans, and hazardous chemical SOPs.  You must also submit a signature page.  The signature page must be signed by The Principal Investigator, the Principal Investigator’s Department Chair, and any Co-Investigators listed on the Animal Protocol.  For a copy of the signature page, please contact the IACUC office at 5-6423.

Q:  Does the IACUC office need a copy of my grant?

A:  The IACUC requires that you upload a copy of the specific aims and vertebrate animal usage section from your grant onto your online Animal Protocol.

Q:  I submitted an animal use application that described five years of study.  Why does my approval letter from the IACUC give me approval for only one year?

A:  The IACUC must review the full duration of the proposed project but they approve animal use procedures for only one year at a time.  At the end of the approval period, you may return to the committee to request to continue the studies as described in the original application or make modifications to that application.  The IACUC office will remind you to fill out an annual renewal form online approximately 60 days prior to the expiration date.

Q:  My Principal Investigator asked me to fill out the Animal Protocol online.  I do not have access to ERGO or cannot see my Principal Investigators name.  What do I do?

A:   Ask your Principal Investigator if he or she has delegated authority to you in ERGO.  If your Principal Investigator needs assistance delegating access please contact the IACUC office at 5-6423

Q:  I am having difficulty filling out my Animal Protocol or annual renewal form online in eSirius.  Who can I call for help?

A:  Please contact the IACUC office at 5-6423.

Q:  How do I add personnel onto my approved Protocol form using eSirius?

A:  On your eSirius homepage, select “Submit an Ammendment for an Existing Protocol.”  You will be launched into an amendment page.  Select the “Protocol Personnel” page.  Click “continue” and you will be launched into a page that will allow you to search for your staff member in the existing database.
