Animal Transfer Between Protocols

Rationale:
In some situations, the use of the same animal on two different protocols is encouraged to reduce the total number of animals used in research.

Policy:

  • An animal may not be used on two different protocols if it will undergo a survival surgery and/or trauma procedure on both animal protocols.
  • A request to transfer animals between protocols must be made using the ARC Animal Reassignment Form.  This form may be found on the Animal Resource Center’s website at http://www8.utsouthwestern.edu:8080/utsw/cda/dept217274/files/438492.html .

Applicability:
This policy applies to all animals used for research purposes.

Exceptions:
Exceptions to this policy may be granted by a decision of the IACUC.
