DALLAS —  Jan. 19, 2006 — UT Southwestern Medical Center's 2006 Annual Women's Health Symposium, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 7, will focus on health strategies for women of all ages, including how to fight aging of the skin, how nutrition and exercise can lead to a healthy heart, and how to deal with issues such as cervical cancer and substance abuse.

"A Day for Women's Health" will include presentations by and discussions with leading physicians from UT Southwestern. It will take place on UT Southwestern's North Campus, in the Excellence in Education Foundation Auditorium in the Simmons/Hamon Biomedical Research Buildings, 6000 Harry Hines Blvd.

The event, sponsored by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is chaired by Harriet Burrow and Nancy Shutt, with Ruth Altshuler serving as honorary chair. Steering committee members are Leslie el-Effendi, Carolyn Horchow, Melissa Macatee, Nancy Perot Mulford, Patricia M. Patterson, Lizzie Routman, Diana Strauss and Barbara Stuart.

UT Southwestern speakers will be Drs. Sarah Weitzul, assistant professor of dermatology; Gloria Vega, professor of clinical nutrition; Eric Nestler, chairman of psychiatry; John Schorge, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, Philippe Zimmern, professor of urology; and Steven Bloom, interim chairman of obstetrics and gynecology. UT Southwestern, Southwestern Medical Foundation and St. Paul Medical Foundation are hosting the symposium.

Dr. Weitzul will speak on "Aging of the Skin: What Causes It and What Can You Do About It?"

Dr. Vega will address "Nutrition and Exercise — Your Way to a Healthy Heart."

Drs. Nestler, Schorge and Zimmern will team up on "Hot Topics from Top to Bottom," addressing mental health, substance abuse, cervical cancers, pelvic and incontinence problems. Dr. Bloom will serve as moderator.

Dr. Susan Cox, associate dean for professional education and professor of obstetrics and gynecology, is the program director.

The cost is $35, with lunch available for an additional $15. The luncheon will be served on the Fourteenth Floor in the adjacent Biomedical Research Tower. Valet parking is complimentary. Due to limited accommodations, reservations should be made by Feb. 1 by calling 214-648-2344.
