The University Logomark

University of Texas Southwestern Medical School

Colors used for the logomark are PMS 294 (blue) and black, or it may be reversed out of a background color.

Using the Logomark and Logotype

  • The logomark should appear on the front, back or title page of all printed university publications intended for internal or external audiences.
  • The logomark should be used on stationery and business cards in the style illustrated in this brochure.
  • The logomark should not be combined with any other symbol, such as the seal.
  • All stationery will be printed in the style illustrated here.

Individual Logos

Except for a few exceptions established prior to 1991, no specially designed or unique logomarks for departments, programs or other activities are approved. This is intended to promote a uniform appearance for UT Southwestern materials.

Individual departments, centers and programs, either academic or clinical, may not print individual logos on stationery and business cards or use individual logos either in printed or electronic publications.

Acronyms

Acronyms, such as UTSWMC, should not be used in any printed materials. Correct titles of the institution for use in copy are:

  • The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas

  • UT Southwestern Medical Center

  • UT Southwestern

Campus Designations

Buildings, centers, facilities and offices south of Inwood Road are considered to be on the South Campus. Those entities located east of Harry Hines Boulevard and north of Inwood Road are considered to be on the North Campus. Clinical buildings, Exchange Park and the Southwestern Allied Health Sciences School building should be referred to by address; there is no West Campus designation.

The University Seal

The university seal is to be used on documents of a formal or official nature, such as diplomas and approved certificates. It may be used as a watermark on official stationery but should not be printed on stationery or note cards.

The seal may be used on official publications of the university, on brochures announcing university-approved continuing-education programs and on poster exhibits for scientific conferences.

All noncommercial uses of the seal must be approved by the Office of Legal Affairs.

The Use of Trademarks for Commercial Purposes

The seal, the logo, and the names UT Southwestern Medical Center, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Southwestern Medical Center, and Southwestern Medical School are registered trademarks of The University of Texas System.

The seal and other registered trademarks may be used on commercial products only if licensed by the UT System, which restricts authorized use to products that will preserve the reputation of component institutions represented by the trademarks. UT System regulations on commercial use of trademarks are stated in its Intellectual Property Policy. Consult the university Office of Legal Affairs for information on permission for use.

The seal and other registered trademarks may not be used in business names and/or logos. They may be used in a few other instances only by prior written consent of the president. Send request to the Office of Legal Affairs.
