DALLAS - Feb. 24, 2005 - Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are seeking patients to participate in medical studies on treatment-resistant depression in teenagers and diabetes and assist researchers with a metabolic study. All clinical trials are approved by UT Southwestern's Institutional Review Board, which reviews them for benefits, risks, side effects and informed consent.

Resistant Depression in Teens
As part of a national study of depression in adolescents, the pediatric psychiatry division of UT Southwestern Medical Center is looking for children and teens from ages 12 to 18 who are currently taking medication for depression but do not seem back to their normal selves. If your child is being treated with Prozac, Celexa, Zoloft, Luvox or Lexapro without complete recovery, he or she could be eligible for this no-cost study using medication or medication combined with therapy. Diabetes
Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are looking for non-diabetic people who are overweight and have high blood pressure for a study evaluating the effectiveness of blood pressure medications at delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes. Participants should be at least 18 years old and not have kidney, heart or liver disease. Study-related treatment and financial compensation will be provided. For details, call 214-648-2375.

Healthy Volunteers
Healthy volunteers ages 40 or older without a history of diabetes, diarrhea, kidney disease or kidney stones are needed for a metabolic study at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Participants would complete a four-night in-patient hospital stay and will be compensated. For information, call 214-648-0439.
