Pregnancy doesn’t have to mean skipping vacations and business trips. Travel is safe for healthy pregnant women if they take certain precautions. This week on Health Watch, we’ll talk about what pregnant women need to consider when they travel.

Dr. Robyn Horsager-Boehrer, an obstetrician at UT Southwestern  Medical Center, says the main travel concern for pregnant women is blood clots developing in their legs. Changes in a woman’s body caused by pregnancy make them more at risk for blood clots, and the long-periods of inactivity and dehydration associated with travel increase that risk. Moving around every few hours, or even just moving feet and legs while sitting, can help prevent blood clots.
