Call for Applications for Congressional Fellow

Appointment by
President Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D.
and
U.S. Representative Michael Burgess, M.D.

UT Southwestern Medical Center and Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D. are offering the remarkable opportunity for upper-level students, residents, or graduates of UT Southwestern to serve as a Fellow on health policy legislation with Congressman Burgess in Washington, D.C.

This Fellow is an integral member of Representative Burgess’ staff and serves as his point person on health issues, which are of critical importance to Dr. Burgess. Not only is Dr. Burgess a member of the key committees that impact policies on health and medical research and Chair of the Congressional Healthcare Caucus, but since medical doctors are uncommon in Congress, Dr. Burgess’ counsel is sought frequently on such issues.

The Fellow gains rare insights on the legislative process, career-enhancing skills and influential contacts, the opportunity to immediately impact public policy, and a foundation to substantially impact public policy throughout her or his career. Furthermore, this experience provides a unique and valued way for students and residents to distinguish themselves very early in their career, which can greatly enhance the likelihood of their selection for a chosen career path, such as a desired residency position. In addition, 3 credit hours are possible toward degree requirements for Master of Public Health, and this fellowship can lead to a degree of MD with a Distinction in Health Policy.

UT Southwestern upper-level students, residents, or graduates in any program may be considered.

Term: one-year appointment beginning the summer
Stipend: $2,000 per month

Applications are now being accepted, which requires a cover letter describing your interest in this fellowship, a current resume or CV, and two letters of recommendation. To apply or request further information, contact:
