
The Symposium Committee is gearing up for the 6th Annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium. The 2008 Symposium, hosted by the Postdoctoral Association at UTSW and the Southwestern Graduate School, will be held from Friday, November 7th to Wednesday, November 12th. (Schedule of Events)
A poster Session will be held in the Atrium of the Medical Education and Conference Center (NG3) on Wednesday, November 12th from 1:30- 3:30 PM.
Accompanying the symposium, we are very pleased to announce that the Postdoctoral-invited University Lectures Series speaker for November 12th will be Dr. Tom Maniatis from the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. His lecture titled “Using Embryonic Stem Cells to Probe the Mechanisms of Neurodegenerative Diseases” will be held at 4:00 PM in the Excellence in Education Foundation Auditorium (NB2.102).
A reception and awards ceremony will take place on the fourteenth floor of the T. Boone Pickens Building (ND14) immediately following Dr. Maniatis’ lecture.
Awards presented include:
• The Local Chapter of Sigma Xi will present five awards for the top abstracts submitted.
• The Postdoctoral Association at UTSW and the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences will present three awards of $1000 and six awards of $100 to the postdocs receiving the highest points from the poster competition.
• The PDA will also be announcing the first recipient of the Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Mentoring.
• The PDA will also present the first recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.
• UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Science will announce this year’s winner of the Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research. The awardee will receive a monetary prize of $2000 and will present the ULS on the following Wednesday, November 19th.
