Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Treatment - Investigational Treatments
There is a whole host of other investigational therapies currently being explored for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms and BPH. Among them are:
- water induced thermotherapy (Argomed), and
- injection of absolute alcohol (ethanol) into the prostate to induce tissue necrosis.
As with all other treatments, these interventions have to be clinically tested, have to stand the tests of time, and been shown to be safe and efficacious before they will be approved by the FDA for general treatment. Physicians in the Prostate Disease Center at UT Southwestern are actively engaged in the research of many of these treatments and will offer you to participate in these trials if you are a suitable candidate.
