The Department of Urology provides state-of-the-art treatment and a broad range of services to patients with all types of urologic malignancies. Our goal is to simultaneously improve treatment efficacy while maintaining or improving patient quality of life. We encourage multidisciplinary consultation with Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology during treatment planning.

The department maintains an active clinical and basic science research program in urologic oncology. By increasing basic understanding of the malignant processes, we improve overall patient care in the areas of prevention, treatment of localized disease, and treatment of advanced disease.

The Department participates in clinical trials through investigator initiated in-house trials, multi-institutional cooperative group mechanisms (CALGB, SWOG, Intergroup) supported by the National Cancer Institute, and industry supported pharmaceutical based trials. The Department also has established a Clinical Center for Minimally Invasive Urologic Cancer Treatment.

The Urologic Oncology Clinic for outpatients is on the second floor of the Seay Clinical Building on the North Campus within the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. Located adjacent to the primary Medical Oncology Clinic, it allows convenience and continuity for patient and physician interaction and multidisciplinary care. Zale Lipshy University Hospital is the primary site for the program’s inpatient care. St. Paul University Hospital also is an important component of the overall campus growth.
