CORE Research Lab

The Burn Center Grant (Pathophysiologic, Biochemical Changes in Thermal Injury) funded by the NIH (effective July, 1999) has continued to support several aspects of the CORE Lab research. This work focuses on the hypothesis that TNF modulates burn-related downstream organ injury via mechanisms that are highly specified for each organ. Furthermore, this work hypothesizes that genetic polymorphisms for TNF modulate the overall inflammatory response to trauma. In July 1996, the surgery department was awarded an NIH Training Grant which supports four research fellows. The Surgery CORE Laboratory provides a unique atmosphere where complex research activities can be effectively coordinated and common models utilized, assuring continued productivity in research areas of trauma and sepsis.
