The mission of the Solutions Outpatient Services rotation for residents in child and adolescent psychiatry is to assure that the psychiatrist treating substance abuse disorders demonstrates basic competency in assessment, treatment, pharmacology, relapse prevention, and continuing care of adolescents with substance abuse problems. To fulfill this mission, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center has established a rotation at Solutions Outpatient Services, a program with a long history of service to patients with alcohol, addiction, and substance abuse disorders.

Solutions Outpatient Services is a privately owned addiction treatment center renowned for its innovative approach to the intensive outpatient treatment of adolescents. The Executive Director is Lois Jordan, LCSW, LCDC, a nationally recognized addiction specialist. Solutions Outpatient Services is licensed by The Texas Department of State Health Services. Solutions handles aftercare and relapse prevention for such prestigious programs as The Betty Ford Center and Hazelden. Solutions Outpatient Services is also a contracted provider for EAP programs as well as managed care fee-for-service programs.

The Solutions Family Program, including intensive weekend experiences and high quality family therapy, is acknowledged to be the finest in the region. The staff includes not only counselors and psychotherapists, but also an addiction psychiatrist. Trainees at Solutions have the opportunity to gain knowledge and skill in cognitive-behavioral therapy, group and family therapies, and 12-Step oriented treatment. Assessments include psychological testing as well as psychiatric evaluation and treatment when indicated.

This is a second year rotation which meets ½ day weekly for 2 ½ months.
