What is VPN and why do I need it?
The UT Southwestern network is protected by a firewall that limits connectivity from outside the campus network. VPN allows you to pass through the firewall and access these systems.

VPN Authorization
All faculty and staff MUST request VPN authorization. Students have it by default.
Log into http://iAim.swmed.edu and select the “Request VPN” link on the left navigation bar. You will immediately get a confirmation message. For non-employees and vendors, click here (internal web site).

- Recommended for use on your own workstation/laptop
- Requires installation of an VPN application on your workstation
- Installation requires administrator rights

Juniper Web Portal

Partial Access
Access to internal web sites only
|
- Recommended for accessing the network from a kiosk workstation
- Browser based, no setup required
- Limitation: You must work within the Juniper Portal and will not have access to your normal web site bookmarks

IMPORTANT NOTES
Because you will be accessing the UT Southwestern network, it is essential that your workstation have up-to-date virus protection and system updates.
If you have the Cisco VPN client installed, please uninstall it before attempting to install the Juniper Network Connect Client. Having two VPN clients installed may cause connectivity issues.
Students must change their password every 95 days in order to log in to Juniper.
You cannot browse to http://utswra.swmed.edu from within the campus network.
