Thank you for your interest in our Doctor of Physical Therapy program. If you would like more information about our program, please attend one of our monthly Information Sessions or email us at pt.sshp@utsouthwestern.edu.

Application
The first step in applying for the DPT program is to fill out the online application. You can find a link to the application at Southwestern School of Health Professions Admissions Information. A complete application will include:
1.  $10 application fee (payable only by check or money order)
2.  Completed/submitted online application
3.  Three letters of recommendation on UTSW form - UTSW PT Letter of Recommendation Form
4.  Original transcripts from all colleges attended
5.  GRE scores.

International applicants must submit TEOFL scores.  If your degree is from a university outside the United States or you have taken coursework outside the United States, please see the International Student Admissions page for additional information.

It is not uncommon for students to take their final prerequisite courses in the spring before entering the DPT program. If you have prerequisite coursework in progress, enter the courses in the Supplemental Application along with the semester you plan to take them.  Your grade will be listed as In Progress (IP).  If offered a seat, the offer will be conditional upon completing the prerequisites.  All prerequisite courses must be completed before classes begin in May.

Deadlines
The Physical Therapy program has two deadlines, September 1 (early admissions) and December 1 (regular admissions).  By 5:00 p.m. on Sept 1 (early) or Dec. 1 (regular), your online application must be completed and submitted.  Your $10 application fee, transcripts from each school attended, and letters of recommendation must be postmarked by Sept. 1 (early) or Dec. 1 (regular).  You may check online or call the Department of Physical Therapy at 214-648-1551 to find out the status of your application. Once your application is complete, our Admissions Committee will review your file.  Documents that arrive after the deadline or not postmarked by the deadline will not be considered.

Interviews
Upon review of all complete applications, interviewees are selected. If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified about when and where the interviews will be held. Interviews take place in October (for the September deadline) and January (for the December deadline). Interviews last approximately 1/2 day. You are not required to bring anything to the interview, but you might want to bring an updated transcript in case there are any questions regarding your classes. The Department of Physical Therapy holds group interviews, with each group consisting of three-five interviewees.

Interview Day is full of activities. We begin with an introduction of our faculty and a short presentation about the DPT program. Interviewees will also have the opportunity to meet with the current PT students and take a campus tour.

Decisions
Shortly after interviews take place, the complete applications and interview evaluations are reviewed for final selection of the incoming class. Letters are then sent to students who are being offered a place in our program or a place on the alternate list.
