 What is PET?

 After Your PET Exam

The P.E.T. Exam

Upon arrival you will be asked to complete a health history questionnaire. Then you will be taken back to the injection room where your blood glucose levels will be checked with a finger stick. Next, you will be injected with a small amount of radioactive glucose (sugar) and you will be asked to rest and relax for 1 hour while your body metabolizes the radioisotope.

After the first hour you will be escorted to the P.E.T. scanning room where you will be asked to lie down on a table that slowly passes through the P.E.T. scanner. The scanner resembles a CT scanner. The scan will take 1-2 hours depending on the type of exam.
