Criteria for Admission to the Program

 General ENT

 Participate in Research Studies 
 

Adults (18 years or older):

  •  Moderate to profound sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL)  bilaterally
  •  50% or less on the HINT* test in the ear to be implanted
  •  60% or less on the HINT test in the opposite ear, or binaurally
  •  Post-linguistic onset of Moderate to profound SNHL
  •  No medical contraindications
  •  Highly motivated
  •  Realistic expectations

Children (25 months to 17 years 11 months):

  •  Severe to profound SNHL
  •  Pre-linguistic or post-linguistic onset of moderate to profound SNHL
  •  MLNT** scores of 30% or less in best aided condition (25 months to 4 years old)
  •  LNT*** scores of  30% or less in best aided condition (all others)
  •  Lack of progress in the development of auditory skills
  •  No medical contraindications
  •  High motivation and appropriate expectations of  family and (when appropriate) the child

(Age 12 months to 24 months):

  •  Profound SNHL bilaterally
  •  Lack of progress in the development of auditory skills
  •  No medical contraindications
  •  High motivation and appropriate expectations from family

*HINT=This is a sentence recognition test

**MLNT=This is a speech preception test for very young children

***LNT=This is a speech perception test for older children
