Worker's Compensation Insurance and Leave Administration
The WCI and Leave Administration Division of the Office of Human Resources is the point of contact for all workers’ compensation issues and all requests relative to formal leaves of absence from UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.
Workers’ Compensation:
This function is responsible for assuring that UT Southwestern Medical Center’s responsibility is met, as an employer with a self-insured workers’ compensation plan. The function therefore receives all reports of work related injuries, illnesses and exposures from all UT Southwestern departments, and provides follow-up to assure that related forms are submitted accurately and timely, as required by the Workers’ Compensation Division of the Texas Department of Insurance. Responsibilities require close coordination of information with department supervisors, injured employees, treating doctors and staff of the regional office of the University of Texas System, Office of Human Resources.
Leave Administration:
This function is responsible for the receipt of all requests for formal leave of absence from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Each request is reviewed for factors of “eligibility” relative to legal ramifications, completeness, medical documentation, appropriate signatures, etc. Requests most frequently received relate to Family Medical Leave, but requests are also received for Military Leave, Catastrophic Sick Leave, non-paid leave, etc. A written response is provided for each request and appropriate managers/supervisors are copied on all correspondence. Handling of requests for leave requires considerable communication with supervisors, and employees to resolve issues relative to available accruals, dates of employment, beginning and ending leave dates, medical documentation, medical status, etc.
