It is the goal of the Occupational Health Department to achieve 100% compliance with annual TB Screening, UT Southwestern Medical Center will now conduct annual TB screens in the 60-day period from August 1 through September 30. This is a change from the previous system, which was based on anniversary date/credential date.

During this 60-day period, each clinical* employee should be able to provide proof they have received a TB skin test or must have a skin test placed and read. To speed the record-keeping process, it will be necessary for employees to know their Person ID Number.

:: When and where is the test offered?
:: What if I currently complete the Past Positive PPD questionnaire?
:: What happens if I don't get tested annually?
:: Who can I contact if I have more questions?

When and where is the test offered?
TB screens will be conducted within each clinical area and at the Occupational Health office on the first floor of the St. Paul building. Readings will be done two days following testing in each clinical area. Designated readers in each clinic may read skin tests. Individuals reading skin tests will be responsible for recording the results on the new form and faxing the documentation to the Occupational Health Department.

What if I currently complete the Past Positive PPD questionnaire?
Records will be reviewed for all employees who are currently completing Past Positive PPD questionnaires. Employees will be allowed to continue completing the questionnaire only if the following documentation can be found in their chart (or produced by the employee):
  • Medical documentation of a positive reaction to the skin test, which documents size of induration in mm and documentation of a chest x-ray completed within 30 days of PPD placement.
  1. If the CXR was clear, no further initial documentation is necessary.
  2. If the CXR was positive, compliance with medication protocol must be demonstrated.

OR

  • Medical documentation of an anaphylactic reaction or necrosis caused by the PPD serum and a chest x-ray completed within 30 days of PPD placement.
  1. If the CXR was clear, no further initial documentation is necessary.
  2. If the CXR was positive, compliance with medication protocol must be demonstrated.
