Target Audience:

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.

Concept & Methods:

This series will provide an environment of scholarly activity apart from clinical responsibilities for education of residents, faculty, and community physicians on the most current understanding and practice in the field of otolaryngology and its related specialties. Conferences will include instruction on the most important aspects of a variety of topics in otolaryngology through the resident lecture series; enhancement of clinical practice and decision-making in otolaryngology through presentation of complex cases related to the general topic of the day; identifying current areas of basic science and clinical research through participation in journal club; and employing a broad perspective of otolaryngology through lectures from our specialties, including communicative and vestibular disorders, pathology, and radiology.

Educational       Objectives:

  1. Provide instruction on the most current thinking and practice from national and international Objectives experts in their field
  2. Review and discuss the most important aspects of a variety of topics in otolaryngology through the resident lecture series
  3. Enhance clinical practice and decision-making in otolaryngology through presentation of complex cases related to the general topic of the day
  4. Keep up to date on current areas of basic science & clinical research through participation in journal club
  5. Provide a broader perspective on the practice of otolaryngology through lectures from our related specialties, including communicative and vestibular disorders, pathology, and radiology
Objectives:

At the conclusion of this activity the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss both scientifically and clinically the topics presented by the visiting professors and be able to incorporate this knowledge in their clinical practice.
  2. Describe the basic science and clinical topics presented in the resident lecture series and journal club and apply this knowledge to formulate treatment algorithms in their clinical practice
  3. Report the important contributions to our otolaryngology practice provided by the related specialties of radiology, pathology, and communicative and vestibular disorders

Off-Label Uses: Because this course is meant to educate physicians with what is currently in use and what may be available in the future, there may be "off-label" use discussed in the presentation. Speakers have been requested to inform the audience when off-label use is discussed.
