Introduction:
The Orthopaedic Resident Education Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center provides comprehensive training for orthopaedic residents through the effective cooperation of the affiliated member institutions in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, based upon recommendation of the Residency Review Committee, which is comprised of representatives from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Medical Association's Council on Medical Education, has accredited the Orthopaedic Residency Program at UT Southwestern to offer postgraduate training of five years duration with six residents per level of training.
In the first postgraduate year a broad-based general surgical experience with two months of orthopaedic surgery offered in conjunction with the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern.
Reappointment depends on satisfactory performance at each PGY level to be determined by the Resident Education Committee.
Each year approximately 400 applications are received for the six postgraduate positions in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. All applications are prescreened by the Residency Review Committee, which is comprised of selected full-time faculty. Both competitive and non-competitive applicants will be notified by eMail (through the ERAS system) of the committee's decision. Those applicants who are selected for an interview will receive a short list of available interview dates and instructions for contacting the Residency Coordinator. Additionally, a confirmation letter detailing pertinent information for the interview day and a list of area hotels will be sent to each interviewee.
The deadline for submission of applications is October 31. Specific inquiries concerning the Orthopaedic Surgical Residency Program should be addressed to:
