Dear Applicant:
We are pleased that you are interested in our Orthopaedic Residency Program.
The Orthopaedic program at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School is a five year training program with six residents in each year. The intern year at UT Southwestern Medical Center is spent with the Department of Surgery, and the intern schedule is developed in conjunction with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The teaching hospitals of the program include Parkland Health and Hospital Systems, University Hospital - St. Paul, University Hospital - Zale Lipshy, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Children's Medical Center and Veteran's Administration Medical Center. The program provides extensive exposure and experience in all areas of orthopaedics, including trauma, reconstructive and joint replacement surgeries, hand, pediatric orthopaedics, spine surgery, sports medicine and foot and ankle surgery.
The program currently has 24 resident physicians and six interns. The resident's competitiveness for outstanding fellowships attests to the quality of our residents, and the breadth of experience they receive.
Interested individuals are invited to apply in their fourth year of medical school. We participate exclusively in the ERAS program. We invite you to visit our web site at:
Orthopaedic Surgery home page.
I hope this preliminary information concerning the program is of value to you. All applications are reviewed by the Residency Selection Committee, and qualified applicants will be invited by letter in early December.
Sincerely,
Joseph Borrelli, Jr., MD
Professor and Chairman
