This Fort Worth hospital has been a component of the OMS training program for almost 30 years. The hospital provides funding for resident salaries, has maintained up-to-date clinical facilities, and is very supportive of the OMS residency. There are seven operatories in the outpatient clinic for use by the OMS program.
The OMS rotation at John Peter Smith exposes the resident to the complete spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Primary cleft care is provided solely by the OMS service at this facility. In addition, the faculty are well-recognized authorities on a number of subjects. The OMSs run a Facial Lesion Clinic, where extensive experience in excisional and reconstructive procedures for skin cancer is provided. Residents spend an average of 6 OMS months over their entire program at this facility.
The faculty, Michael F. Zide, DMD, John Paul Stella, DDS, Michael Warner, DDS, PhD, and David Bell DDS, MD are well-known experts in many areas of surgery. The residents receive a great deal of didactic education in addition to the surgical experience at this facility.
