Children’s is the only Dallas health care facility that deals exclusively with a variety of diseases and disorders among children. Children from birth to age 18 receive care ranging from a simple eye exam to specialized treatments.
Today, the 322-bed medical center ranks as one of the nation’s best pediatric hospitals. Children’s features a 26-bed pediatric intensive care unit, a 10-bed pediatric trauma intensive care unit, a 12-bed psychiatric unit, nearly 50 outpatient clinics and a state-of-the-art emergency center designed specifically for children.
This hospital is physically attached to Parkland Hospital, UTSWMC, and Zale-Lipshy University Hospital. This rotation exposes the resident to the private practice side of oral and maxillofacial surgery with pediatric patients. During this OMS rotation, the resident is the right-hand to the UTSWMC faculty. Most of the private surgery cases on children from the faculty practice are operated at this hospital. The resident performs the duties of an associate. Residents spend an average of 3 months over their entire program at this facility. The faculty involved in this rotation are Drs. Dr. Douglas P Sinn, Ellis, Walker, Schwartz-Dabney, Sakamoto, Zuniga and Finn.
