Parkland has been caring for the people of Dallas for more than a century. It is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and is often rated among the best hospitals in the United States. Because of Parkland's affiliation with the medical school, paying and non-paying patients alike have access to top quality medical care. As Dallas County's only public hospital, Parkland ensures that health care is available to all area residents.

Parkland Memorial Hospital, operated by the Dallas County Hospital District, is the major teaching unit of the medical center. This 1,062-bed hospital offers a variety of clinical services, ranging from an outpatient clinic to an extremely active emergency service, providing an abundance of clinical situations for teaching purposes.

Parkland is the primary training center for the oral and maxillofacial surgery program. The institutional support for our OMS training program has been overwhelming and significant for over 40 years. Our facilities and equipment have constantly been upgraded when necessary and out-patient clinic areas have been expanded to meet the needs of increasing patient loads. Our outpatient clinic is a modern 7-operatory facility.   Modern and updated equipment has always been an objective of the Parkland administration. We have sufficient staffing in the outpatient clinic with nurses/dental assistants to meet the needs of the patient flow.

The major portion of time in the OMS training program is spent at Parkland Hospital, including medical school clerkships, general surgery, anesthesiology, other surgical specialties, and OMS rotations. It is a vital place where patient care comes first and educational opportunities abound.
