The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is NOT required of applicants. However, to be eligible, an applicant must have graduated from an accredited U.S. or Canadian dental school and must be a U.S. Citizen or hold a green card. Residents in our program will take the National Medical Licensing Examinations (Parts I and II) prior to graduation from medical school, which is required of all medical students at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Part III of the National Medical Licensing Examination is completed during the PGY1 year of general surgery. Each resident will be eligible for in-state tuition during medical school. Resident stipends will be provided while on medical school rotations in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, ENT, and Anesthesiology. Resident stipends will also be provided during the years when functioning as a resident of the OMS/MD track, at a level commensurate with other residents in the hospital at that time. We participate in the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS), a centralized application service which many OMS programs currently use. It simplifies the application process for candidates by allowing them to submit application materials to only one source (PASS), who then distributes this material to as many OMS programs as the candidate chooses. PASS will begin to accept application materials June 1 of this year for the following year's enrollment. Please contact PASS to obtain an application package. The address for PASS is 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20036-2212. Their phone is (202) 332-8795, and their FAX is (202) 667-0642. Information about PASS is also available through the internet at http://www.adea.org/PASS/default.htm. PLEASE NOTE: The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's advanced training programs in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery requires additional information beyond what is provided to us by PASS. The applicant must provide these items directly to us at any time prior to September 1st of the year prior to enrollment. These items are: A recent photograph An application fee of $25 A copy of your official undergraduate (pre-dental) transcripts Our program is participating in the Matching Program for Residency positions of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. The Matching Program is totally different from PASS. Pass is a centralized application service. The Matching Program is the method by which applicants and OMS training programs are mutually selected. The applicant applies to various programs by using PASS (or directly for those programs not participating in PASS). Once the applicant has evaluated the various programs, s/he must determine which programs s/he prefers. S/He does this by ranking them in order of preference and sending this information to the Matching Program. The OMS training programs similarly rank their choices of candidates. A computer at central Match headquarters "matches" the desires of the candidates and the programs, based upon the mutual rankings, and determines which candidates go to which programs. A "Request for Application Agreement Package" of the National Matching Service should be obtained as soon as possible. The address for the National Matching Services is 595 Bay Street, Suite 301, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M5G 2C2 (phone: 416/977-3432; fax 416/977-5020). Their email address is: www.natmatch.com/dentres. When the materials from PASS and those listed above have been received, your application will be complete, and a determination will be made as to which candidates will be interviewed. Interviews are conducted by invitation only on dates to be specified later. Those candidates who we wish to interview will be contacted early in the fall with more details. When you fill out your Match Rank List, you should rank those programs you wish to attend in the order that you prefer. The 6-year match number for our program is 2131.
