"The mind does not live by instruction. The real intellectual life of a body of students, if there be any, manifests itself not only in the classroom, but in what they do and talk of and set before themselves as their favorite objects between classes and lectures...
If you wish to create a college, therefore, and are wise, you will seek to create life... My plea, then, is this: That we reorganize our colleges on the lines of this simple conception, that a college is not only a body of studies but a mode of association... it must become a community of scholars and pupils."
--Woodrow Wilson, 28th President
of the United States of America

The Bryan Williams, M.D. Student Center contains approximately 43,000 square feet of program space. The centerpiece is a special events center and gymnasium that accommodates basketball, badminton, volleyball, indoor soccer and other recreational activities as well as special events such as student functions, parents' day and similar activities for which there is no suitable space on the campus. A smaller multi-purpose room supports aerobics, martial arts, yoga and smaller social activities. A suspended jogging track around the circumference of the gymnasium has provided a pleasant (and safe) change from running on the streets around the campus. A large conditioning room offers weight training with free weights and Cybex circuit stations, and cardiovascular training using treadmills, stairmasters, stationary bicycles and rowing ergonometers. Being a student center, the building naturally contains a recreation room with pool tables, table tennis, foosball tables, large-screen television, a cafe for snacks and refreshments, and dataport access for students to access the campus network via their laptop computers. Add a racquetball court and locker and shower facilities adjacent to an outdoor terrace and the result is a superb student center appropriate for such an outstanding medical center in the 21st century.
