Investigators in the Center for Human Nutrition contribute their time as scientific volunteers to the American Heart Association (AHA). These investigators have served on key committees of the AHA, including the prestigious Nutrition Committee. Center supporters helped to underwrite the creation of the AHA's cookbook for lowering the blood cholesterol.

Dr. Scott M. Grundy currently serves as Chair of the Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Metabolic Diseases (NAPM) council.  This council promotes the expansion and exchange of knowledge on nutrition, physical activity and metabolism – including obesity and diabetes – related to CVD and stroke.  We also help the American Heart Association promote healthy lifestyles and behaviors, including diet and physical activity, in preventing and treating CVD and stroke. The council comprises four standing committees representing the major areas of science and clinical practice, including the Nutrition Committee of the Scientific Councils, the Committee on Physical Activity, the Committee on Obesity and the Committee on Diabetes.
