Department of Clinical Science
The Center for Biostatistics and Clinical Science is a department-level initiative that functions as an academic, educational, and cultural home for clinical investigators across all departments and disciplines at UT Southwestern.
Center of Human Genetics
This Center is a partner of the Center for Human Nutrition in the study of the interaction of nutrition and genetics. Dr. Helen Hobbs is the director of the Center for Human Genetics. Dr. Jonathan Cohen has appointments in both Centers.
Division of Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases
The Division of Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases is actively involved in clinical and basic research pertaining to the disorders of human nutrition and metabolism (such as obesity, other body fat disorders, diabetes and hyperlipidemias).
Taskforce for Obesity Research at UT Southwestern - TORS (NIH P20 Award)
We have assembled the best investigators and technology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas to focus on a major medical problem in the U.S.-obesity and the associated constellation of metabolic disorders referred to as the metabolic syndrome (atherogenic dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, hypertension, prothrombotic and proinflammatory states).
UT Southwestern Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center
The Reynolds Clinical Research Center receives major funding from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to study the causes and treatment of heart disease. It supports the Dallas Heart Study. CHN investigators play a key role in metabolic and genetic components of the Reynolds Center.
UT Southwestern Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC)
Much of the Centers clinical research is carried out in the CTRC. Dr. Scott Grundy is the Medical Director of the CTRC.
UT Southwestern Nutrition Academic Award
The faculty of the Center are the recipients of a grant award from the National Institutes of Health to develop new ways to improve nutrition education in academic medical centers. One major aim is to improve the teaching of nutrition to medical students. The Center for Human Nutrition joins 16 other medical schools in the United States to develop new approaches to nutrition education. The Center leads an effort to promote on-line learning through a network of websites among the 17 institutions.

AHA Council on Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Metabolism (NPAM)
The American Heart Associations NPAM council bring a new emphasis to the association in the fields of obesity, diabetes, nutrition, physical activity, and metabolic syndrome. CHN director, Dr. Scott Grundy, is the current chair of NPAM. Current Opinion in Lipidology. This journal summarizes important advances in the field of lipids. CHN director, Dr. Scott M. Grundy, is the current editor of the journal.
Dallas VA Medical Center
The VA Medical Center at Dallas (VAMCD) is a major site for clinical investigation for researchers at the Center for Human Nutrition. Much of the research published from the Center in the past 18 years was carried out at the VAMCD.
International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS)
The IAS consists of 53 member organizations worldwide that promote research and education in the atherosclerosis field. CHN director, Dr. Scott Grundy, is the current president of the IAS.
NHLBI National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP)
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institutes NCEP aims to promote education for the general public and the medical profession. about the cardiovascular risk associated with high blood cholesterol Several CHN investigators are involved in the NCEP.
Metabolic Syndrome Institute
Created in 2003, the Metabolic Syndrome Institute is an independent and not for profit association. Its members are international experts in lipid metabolism, diabetes, heart disease, endocrinology obesity, genetics, epidemiology, basic research and health economics. Being the first association totally devoted to the dissemination of knowledge about the metabolic syndrome, the Metabolic Syndrome Institute will provide an international multidisciplinary approach to a worldwide public health problem.
