| We are pleased to learn of your interest in postgraduate training in internal medicine at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Affiliated Hospitals: Parkland Health and Hospital System, VA North Texas Health Care System and UT Southwestern University Hospitals. The UT Southwestern affiliated hospitals participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Before an application is accepted, all requirements specified by the NRMP must be met. If you have not done so, please write the NRMP office:
We will be participating in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). You may contact them at (215) 386-5900 for further information. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT APPLICATIONS OUTSIDE THE ERAS PROGRAM. It is important to note that The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine only accepts permanent residents or J-1 ECFMG sponsored visas. We do not offer H1-B visas. In order to meet you and give you an opportunity to learn about our program from the attending staff and current house officers, we offer a choice of 9 interview dates. In 2008-2009 these are:
On Friday, the interview session begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes with a reception from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. U.S. clinical is desired but, NOT required. In order for us to consider your application, you must have scored 90 or above on Parts I and II of the United States Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE). You must also hold the standard Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate. We offer both categorical (3 year) and preliminary (1 year) Training Programs. I urge graduates of international medical schools who are interested in our categorical program to also apply to the preliminary program and to rank both. In the event that an applicant interested in the categorical program matches with the preliminary program and performs well during internship, he or she is given special consideration for an opening at the PGY-2 level. Please indicate to which program(s) you are applying. In addition to your ERAS application, we are interested in letters of recommendation from the appropriate attending physicians or chiefs of programs regarding a subinternship or externship in medicine during medical school and regarding any internship, residency, or fellowship that you have performed since graduation. Sincerely, Carol L. Croft, M.D. Professor and Program Director
