University Hospital Zale Lipshy , linked to Parkland by the Sprague Clinical Science Building, opened in 1989 and has broadened the exposure of the house staff to tertiary-care referral patients. The state-of-the-art 146-bed facility is staffed by four internal medicine residents who deal with a broad variety of general internal medicine primary care and consultative responsibilities.

In addition to participating in Morning Report with the Parkland ward residents, they meet during weekdays for teaching rounds with the University Hospital - Zale Lipshy attending physician, one of twelve faculty members selected by the house staff for  their excellence as clinical educators.
