1. What is provided by the T-35 training grant?
The training grant funds the student stipend and provides additional funds that can be used to permit the presentation of results at a scientific meeting.
2. Who is eligible ?
Any student that is presently enrolled in an accredited US medical school.
3. Can I apply even if I am enrolled at UT Southwestern?
Yes! A certain proportion of the training grant slots will be available to students enrolled at UT Southwestern.
4. Why should I apply (follow up to FAQ #2) ?
The answer is that this is a competitive program. Like any other honor, successful competition for a training grant 'slot' is an achievement that will help to identify students who have distinguished themselves from their peers.
5. Can all research projects be supported by the T-35 grant?
THe T-35 grant is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Projects supported by this program must be in areas of NIDDK emphasis. These areas include: diabetes, obesity, endocrine disorders, metabolic diseases, cystic fibrosis, liver and intestinal diseases, nutrition, kidney disease, urologic disorders, hematologic diseases, stem cell research, basic biology of organ systems, and developmental and structural biology.
