Welcome to the Dermatology patient information page. Providing excellent patient care is one of our main goals in Dermatology. In working towards that endeavor we have created this webpage to better assist you. Please click on a link at the left of this page for information regarding each dermatologic clinic area, information about our physicians that specialize in each area, how to make an appointment, patient education materials, support groups, outside health care links, and current dermatology clinical trials.
Members of our faculty play major roles in national service and patient-advocacy organizations, including the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease. To find out more about our physicians qualifications, please browse our physician directory.
Our services are located at Clinical Building I (DF) on the third floor. If you click on the Patient and Visitors Guide link listed on the left, you'll find links for maps and directions to our clinics, affiliated hospitals, accepted insurance plans, and health and wellness information. We invite you to explore all of our webpages or come by to visit us.
Scope of Dermatology
Dermatology covers a broad range of diseases involving the skin, hair, nails, and lining of the mouth, as well as many underlying medical and genetic disorders.
Dermatologists diagnose and treat common problems such as acne, eczema, herpes, impetigo, boils, skin ulcers, fungal infections, corns, hives, hair loss, and diseases of the nails. They also surgically remove skin cancers, warts, cysts, ingrown toenails, moles, and a variety of other skin growths. Dermatologists treat cosmetic problems using collagen injections, chemical peels, sclerotherapy (spider vein injection), cryosurgery for age spots, laser surgery for small facial blood vessels, and camouflage make-up application.
Not only are the Dermatology faculty at UT Southwestern skilled at diagnosing and treating common dermatologic problems, many of them also have special interests in difficult-to-treat disorders, for which the physicians integrate research with patient care. Among these areas of specialized interest are sun-induced skin diseases, lupus, psoriasis, skin lesions, skin cancer (Mohs micrographic surgery), occupation-related skin problems, allergic diseases of the skin, scleroderma, Hansen's disease and others.
