Behavioral Sleep Medicine and Psychology

The behavioral sleep medicine program emphasizes the behavioral treatment of a number of sleep disorders, including disorders of initiating and maintaining sleep, the insomnias, settling disorders in infants and children, disorders of excessive daytime sleepiness, narcolepsy, night terrors, circadian rhythm disorders, and sleep schedule disorders.  It is specially designed for psychologists but is also available to psychiatrists.

Recent meta-analyses have repeatedly shown behavioral therapies to be as effective as medication in treating a wide variety of sleep disorders, including most forms of insomnia.  Behavioral sleep medicine is a rapidly emerging discipline, and psychologists in this area are in high demand by sleep disorders centers.
