Our team of faculty cardiologists at UT Southwestern Medical Center offers vast clinical expertise and scientific insight to aid patients suffering from known or suspected heart disease. Represented among team members are specialists in virtually every aspect of modern cardiology, including the management of all forms of heart disease, their predisposing risk factors, and their complications.
Patients of UT Southwestern’s faculty are managed at affiliated hospitals (Parkland Memorial Hospital, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, St Paul University Hospital, and the Dallas VA Medical Center). Our patients benefit from access to some of the most advanced therapies available, including conventional and investigational medications, interventional procedures, and implantable devices.
Among the services offered:
Preventive Cardiology
a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nutritionists, and nurses dedicated to preventing heart disease and its complications
Cardiac catheterization
a technology using a thin flexible tube (catheter) placed inside the heart for purposes of diagnostic examination and treatment. Cardiac catheters may be used to implant electrodes of a pacemaker or defibrillator, to administer a drug, or to unblock narrowed coronary arteries with balloon angioplasty and stents.
Electrophysiology (EP)
a technology used to diagnose and treat cardiac rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias) through the placement of electrodes inside the heart.
Rapid cardiac MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
an advanced diagnostic technology developed at UT Southwestern using modified MR systems to produce motion pictures of the beating heart.
Nuclear imaging and SPECT (single photon emission computerized tomography)
a cardiac imaging technology pioneered at UT Southwestern that is used to monitor the blood supply to the heart.
Echocardiography
a diagnostic method using ultrasound to record and monitor the heart's function and the action of its valves.
Cardiac stress testing
a test of the heart muscle's strength and efficiency using regular electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and nuclear methods.
Heart disease in pregnancy
an area of specialized care focusing on the unique stresses placed on the heart during pregnancy and the therapies that can be safely administered.
