FIFTH ANNUAL CARDIOVASCULAR SYMPOSIUM

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas will host its fifth annual Cardiovascular Symposium this fall.   The conference, entitled “From Hypertension to Heart Failure”, is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, October 24 and 25.  The Symposium will take placed in the Medical Education and Conference Center on North Campus.  Please mark your calendars for this event.

The Cardiovascular Symposium is a major event in the academic year at UT Southwestern.   Based on a specific topic, experts from around the country, along with UT Southwestern faculty; provide a comprehensive scientific program touching on contemporary aspects of the topic.  This year, the Symposium will focus on the transition from hypertension to heart failure, a theme selected in light of the dramatic prevalence of hypertension among the African American cohort of the Dallas Heart Study.

The symposium is sponsored by AstraZeneca and the Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center at UT Southwestern.  Fellows, graduate and medical students and staff are invited to participate in a scientific poster session on October 24 in the NG3 dining and public area.  The dinner on October 24 will be in the ND14 dining room.  As in previous years, cash prizes will be awarded for best posters in several categories.  For more information regarding the symposium and poster session, contact Anita Hughes at 214-648-1421 or email at Anita.Hughes@utsouthwestern.edu.

Confirmed presenters include:

Dr. Michael Bristow from the University of Colorado Health Science Center

Dr. Marc Pfeffer from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School

Dr. Daniel Levy of the NHLBI’s Framingham Heart Study
