Bilhartz Award

In May 2004, the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases mourned the untimely death of Lyman E. Bilhartz, M.D. Dr. Bilhartz was an oustanding graduate of UT Southwestern Medical School. He obtained his initial post-graduate training and was Chief Resident at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. In 1985, he returned to UT Southwestern for his fellowship training and then joined the faculty.

In recognition of his teaching skills, the fellows and faculty of the division have named the annual teaching award in his memory. He was a consummate lover of teaching and learning. He is and will continue to be greatly missed.
