The UT Southwestern GI Fellowship program provides a number of unique opportunities. The goals of the program are:
(1) to train scholarly gastroenterologists as excellent clinicians who will provide expert and compassionate patient care
(2) develop leaders in clinical and basic research
(3) participate in the education of students, house staff, and colleagues.
The program structure focuses on the development of “core competencies”, many of which are reinforced by the ACGME and which are used to judge training accomplishment. Critical areas emphasized include research, education, patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
The program provides training is several specific areas. A Clinical Scholar Track trains physicians for an academic career as a clinician. Clinical training for fellows takes place at our affiliated hospitals. The Investigator Track trains physicians in research and for an academic career. Research training for fellows takes place in research laboratories of UT Southwestern Medical Center or Dallas VA Medical Center campuses. |
