UT Southwestern IACUC Policy                                     IACUC # 124

Approval Date:__8/30/06____                                     1 of 1

Subcontracted Animal Work Performed Offsite

Rationale:

The IACUC has a fiduciary duty to funding agencies to ensure that all animal work supported by UT Southwestern award money is conducted at NIH Assured (and USDA registered, if applicable) facilities under a protocol reviewed and approved by the performance site institution's IACUC.

Policy:

The IACUC does not require a dual review of animal use protocols when all the animal work is conducted offsite under a subcontract to the performance site institution.

Applicability:

This policy applies to UT Southwestern PIs who subcontract animal work to another institution.

Instructions:

To help us meet our obligations to the funding agency, the PI must send to the IACUC:

  • a copy of the IACUC approved protocol from the performance site institution,
  • a copy of the IACUC approval letter from the performance site institution,
  • a copy of the grant application for the prime award to UT Southwestern, and
  • a cover memo identifying the prime award funding the subcontract, the subcontractor institution's OLAW Assurance number, and the subcontractor institutions USDA registration number to the IACUC (if applicable).

If all the paperwork is in order, the UT Southwestern IACUC can accept the subcontractor institution's IACUC approval and will issue a letter to document such.
