Procuring Custom Antibodies

Rationale:

Animals involved in custom antibody production must be maintained and used in accord with federal humane standards.

Policy:

If a contractor produces custom antibodies using antigen(s) provided by or at the request of a PI, that PI must provide the IACUC office with the contractor’s NIH Assurance number and USDA Registration number (if applicable) or proof of AAALAC accreditation.  “Off-The-Shelf” antibodies purchased through a catalogue by a commercial supplier do not require documentation.

Applicability:

This policy applies to all custom animal antibody orders placed by researchers at UT Southwestern.

Instructions:

Contact the proposed contractor to determine if they are NIH Assured and registered with the USDA (if applicable).  Provide a copy of the contractor’s NIH Assurance number and USDA registration number to the IACUC office or proof of AAALAC accreditation.

For any additional questions, please contact the IACUC Manager at 5-6420.
