The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management has clinical operations at St. Paul University Hospital for General, Obstetric, and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology.
The Interim Director of General Anesthesia Services is Dr. Phil DuChamp. Surgical cases are a mixture of ambulatory, same-day admission, and in-patient procedures. Anesthesia services are provided for several specialties including general, orthopedic, and vascular surgery.
Dr. Carol Weidner, is the Director of Women's Anesthesia Services. Anesthesia services are provided for obstetric and gynecologic specialties.
Dr. Leland Lou, Chief of the Division of Pain Management and Director of the Eugene McDermott Center for Pain Management, is the interim Director for the Acute Pain Service (APS). The APS plays an active role in surgical pain management at St. Paul. Goals of the APS are to 1) improve pain management of hospitalized patients, 2) educate residents in the techniques of acute pain management, and 3) direct clinical research in pain management.
The Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology is Dr. Michael H. Wall, a Fellow of Critical Care Medicine and holder of the S.T. "Buddy" Harris Distinguished Chair in Cardiac Anesthesiology. This division provides the anesthetic management for over 1,800 cardiothoracic and major vascular cases annually, performed not only at St. Paul but also at the VA North Texas Health Care System and Zale Lipshy University Hospital. Additionally, St. Paul supports a prominent heart and lung transplant program, providing an outstanding experience in advanced cardiothoracic anesthesiology.
