The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is committed to academic and clinical excellence. In keeping with this commitment, our goal for resident education is to foster the development of the knowledge, interpersonal skills, clinical skills, and judgment necessary to become outstanding perioperative physician consultants and Diplomates of the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Clinical experience provides an invaluable foundation for resident education. The varied patient populations encountered at our affiliated hospitals, all located in Dallas, allow our residents to gain a broad and diverse clinical experience. In addition to clinically based training, our faculty is dedicated to quality formal education. This includes faculty and guest lectures, problem-based learning discussions (PBLD), departmental grand rounds, clinical case conferences, journal club, and exposure to our patient simulation lab. We strive to achieve this educational process in a respectful and stimulating environment that is sensitive to the resident's life outside of the hospital.
We consider it a privilege to train residents in anesthesiology. Our hope is that by the completion of training, we have imparted an enthusiasm for anesthesiology that translates into a lifelong quest for knowledge and the continued pursuit of clinical excellence.
