As the recently appointed Chief Residents of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Parkland Health & Hospital System and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, we are very excited to let you know about our program.

The exceptionally high acuity and volume of patients, for whom we care for at both Parkland and at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, help to make an exceptional Emergency Medicine training program.  Parkland is the place for residents and applicants who are seeking high trauma volume and extensive experience in the most current methods of caring for trauma patients.  Likewise, Parkland also delivers more babies than any other hospital in the country and we take advantage of this fact during our Labor and Delivery training.  Similarly, with our training at Children’s Medical Center, the busiest pediatric emergency department and pediatric ICU in the country, our pediatric experience is second to none.

Another aspect of the Parkland program is ongoing research in the area of trauma ultrasound as well as ultrasound use in the ED.  This is aided by the fact that Parkland is served by two air rescue helicopter services.  In addition, we supervise all EMS resuscitations and care for the City of Dallas and a dozen surrounding cities, and as a result, our EMS experience and research is now being recognized internationally. Parkland is also a nationally recognized leader in governmental emergency medical security issues and for training and preparations for bioterrorism.  Additionally, residents also are well prepared for private practice from the great moonlighting experiences that second and third years get in the strong Dallas-area community hospitals.

While the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at UT Southwestern & Parkland is relatively new, it has already matured into a leading, fully accredited EM Program.  The residents take full advantage of all of the unmatched assets offered by Parkland, Children’s, and the community of Dallas at large.

It’s a great place to work, a great place to live, and every day in the Parkland ER is a new adventure-believe us!  We’re saving lives and loving it.

If you have any questions or would like further information about our program, please do not hesitate to contact us.
