How do I apply to your program?
All applications must be submitted electronically through the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology Home page by clicking the 'Apply Now' tab on the left. Access to the online application is available starting September 1st of each year. Additional application materials (i.e. official transcripts) should be mailed to the UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas Admissions Office, 5323 Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas, Texas, 75390-9162.
What is the deadline for completion of materials?
The deadline for each academic year is January 1st. Only complete applications will be reviewed and considered for the following Fall term.
Is there a specific form that my recommendation letter writers need to complete?
Yes. Once you begin the online application in the APPLY NOW! section, you will see a form you need to download for your recommendation letter writers.
What is the GRE code to submit my scores?
The GRE general test code for UTSW is 6686. The Psychology subject test code is 93.
Can course work completed in a masters degree program be counted toward the doctoral degree at UT Southwestern?
No, but it is possible to request permission to substitute another course, or research/internship activity for a course already taken.
Do you offer a masters degree program?
The Doctoral Program does not offer a masters degree en route to the Ph.D. However, there is a master of science degree program in Rehabilitation Counseling in the School of Health Professions. A separate application to this program is required for those interested.
What are the minimum GRE/GPA requirements?
The minimum score on the GRE is 1000 (verbal plus quantitative). The minimum GPA is 3.0 undergraduate. There is no requirement to take the psychology portion of the GRE, although it is encouraged. Note that these are minimum standards, and the average GRE score of students admitted into this program is 1250, with an average undergraduate GPA of 3.6.
If I am selected for an interview what day will the interview be?
Interview Day is typically scheduled for a Saturday in late February or early March of each admission year.
How long does it take to complete the program?
The program includes an integrated two-year half-time internship and is designed as a 4 year course of study. The average length of time from entry to graduation is approximately 4.5 years.
May I take courses in the program without being a full-time student?
No, all doctoral students in this program must be full-time.
Does your program provide funding for the students?
The program provides financial support in the form of a stipend beginning in the 2nd year. While there is no guarantee of funding from year to year, the program has been consistently able to provide stipends since the program's inception.
Do you have a financial aid program?
Information about loan funds and other financial aid can be obtained from the Office of Student Financial Aid. Students are also encouraged to pursue opportunities for training funds from outside organizations.
